What is the tarot?
There’s a lot of mysticism to the tarot, and many occultists like to trace back a mystical line of it’s history to ancient Egypt and connections with secret societies. What we actually know however, is that the earliest known tarot deck dates back to the 15th Century and was based on the ItaIian card game ‘Tarocchini’ . It wasn’t until the 18th century that it started to be used for divination and cartomancy. From this point it began to incorporate the astrological, numerological, qabalistic, and other esoteric components the main decks such as the Rider-Waite deck feature today.
While it’s evolution may be more modern than some would like to admit, this doesn’t by any means diminish it’s validity as a powerful guidance tool and each card, rich in symbolism, meaning and spiritual charge can indeed as a window for deep insight.
