While certain cultures or religions may not support the notions of past lives or reincarnation, it can be helpful to maintain an open mind and entertain the idea that this current life may not be the only expression of who we are that has existed or will exist. Science has increasingly revealed the fluid and illusory nature of time, suggesting that multiple lifetimes and different expressions of ourselves can exist simultaneously. In our linear understanding of time, some of these may feel like they belong to the past, others to the future, and some simply exist in ‘elsewhere’.

Putting our current life into this broader context allows us to see ourselves as part of a much larger story that is continuously unfolding. Recognizing this can deepen our sense of connection, purpose, and perspective, reminding us that we are always part of a greater wholeness that transcends the limitations of linear time. It invites us to approach our journey with curiosity and openness, embracing the idea that we are infinite expressions of consciousness in an ongoing, interconnected web of existence.

Regarding the concept of ‘past lives’ then, we can access insights and information about what those experiences may have been through a variety of methods. This process can help deepen our understanding of who we are and where we have come from. By exploring these connections, we gain valuable perspectives that shed light on patterns, lessons, and strengths carried across different expressions of ourselves. This awareness allows us to integrate wisdom from our broader existence and to navigate our current life with greater clarity, purpose, and compassion.

EXERCISES

Self reflection

~ Do I have any repeated or vivid dreams about unfamiliar places, individuals, or themes that feel like they may point to past life influences? Are there any recurring symbols, places or motifs?

~ Do I experience any recurring challenges, unexplainable behaviours, relationship patterns, or emotional responses linked to specific areas (like abandonment, shame, or control)?

~ When I meet people in my life that feel ‘familiar’ or that I have unusually strong or difficult connections with, what passions, hobbies or interests do we have in common? Did we meet or visit an unusual location together?

~ Do I have a strong affinity for particular places in the world even though I’ve never been there?

~ Do I have any hobbies, interests, or an affinity for a particular style of music, art, or literature from the past that I’m just really drawn to without understanding why?

~ Which life lessons, goals or themes feel particularly significant?

~ Are there any strong themes, cultural beliefs or family stories that feel like they carry a greater history for me?

Astrology birthchart insights

You can identify past life energies through astrology by examining specific points and patterns in your natal chart that suggest karmic influences, unresolved themes, or soul lessons carried across lifetimes. Hopefully this isn’t too technical but the help of online tools can also go a long way if you get stuck.

~ Take out your astrology birthchart, or download it from a site such as astro.com

~ Identify where your South Node (Ketu) lies, in terms of zodiac sign and house. It’s symbol looks like an upside down horseshoe. The South Node represents past life themes, karmic patterns, and ingrained habits. Its sign and house placement reveal areas where energies and lessons from previous lifetimes are strongly ingrained and may need transformation in this life.

~ If you’re familiar with signs and houses you can infer this for yourself, or you can do a quick search around the house and sign of your zodiac and learn about these energies.

~ If you are more confident with astrology (again, either on your own or with the help of a search engine) you can also reflect upon the following:

~ The North Node placement. We’ll look at this more later but can be insightful now as the opposite of the South node, showing us incoming lessons and karma rather than what we’re releasing.

~ Chiron as the signifier of wounds from past experiences, including past lives, and how healing is possible.

~ Any retrograde planets, which can suggest energies that are inwardly focused or unresolved past life issues yet to be integrated.

~ Strong 12th house placements. The 12th house is associated with the subconscious, hidden depths, and spiritual karma. Heavy or impacted 12th house placements can point to karmic patterns originating from past lives.

~ Saturn. Saturn represents karma, lessons, and contracts. Its placement and aspects can highlight areas where karmic lessons involving discipline, responsibility, and growth are being worked through, possibly signifying past life influences.

~ Pluto, representing the soul's evolutionary desires, unfinished business

~ Repeated signs, themes, or planetary configurations across different charts or history can suggest recurring soul themes from previous incarnations.

Alternatively a good astrology reading can be a wonderful guide to understanding where you have been and where you are going.

Past Life Regression

~ Hypnosis or guided meditations can help access memories, themes, and feelings linked to previous lives. People sometimes recall vivid scenes, relationships, or lessons.

Intuitive or Psychic Readings

~ Psychic readings can sometimes reveal themes, unresolved issues, or karmic ties from multiple incarnations.
